All content on Plain AI is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0). The same licence Wikipedia uses.

What this means in plain English

You can:

  • Read everything for free. Always.
  • Copy any topic, lesson, or page and use it in your own work.
  • Translate any of it into any language.
  • Adapt the content — rewrite, shorten, expand, remix.
  • Use it in classrooms, parent groups, community programmes, libraries, NGO projects.
  • Quote it in commercial contexts — textbooks, news articles, products.

You just have to:

  • Attribute Plain AI as the source.
  • Share derivatives under the same licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) — so the commons grows, doesn't get locked back up.

Why CC BY-SA 4.0, not non-commercial?

Some "free" projects use a non-commercial (CC BY-NC) clause. That sounds protective but it actually blocks the people who'd take the content furthest:

  • School textbook publishers — most charge.
  • Libraries running paid programmes — most do.
  • NGOs that charge participants to cover printing costs — most do.
  • Translators trying to fund their work through commercial outlets.

Wikipedia tried CC BY-NC and abandoned it for the same reason. The CC BY-SA 4.0 ShareAlike clause does the real protection — derivatives can't be locked back up, even if they're sold commercially. The commons grows.

You don't need to ask permission. The licence already grants it.

What's NOT under this licence

Two small things:

  • The Plain AI brand name and logo — those are Plain AI's, not commons-licensed. Don't make a fake "Plain AI: Premium" or anything that pretends to be us.
  • The 'A Guide to Cloud' family of sites elsewhere in the cosmos (the main site, Brain Bar, Shift) have their own licences — they're free to read but not under CC BY-SA. Plain AI is the commons surface.
